British Sign Language (BSL) is a rich and expressive visual language used by the deaf community in the United Kingdom.
It is not a direct translation of spoken English into signs but rather a distinct language with its own grammar, syntax, and vocabulary.
BSL is a vital means of communication for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in the UK and is also used by some hearing individuals who have a connection to the deaf community or require a non-verbal means of communication.

This course offers the same content as our free language buddy resource. The difference being that you are challenged to meet the assessment criteria to earn a college certificate. Learners awaiting start dates for college ESOL classes are advised to enrol here and evidence their progress prior to beginning at college or in one of our classes within the community learning hubs provided by our partner organisations.
